The Story
Close to the township of Takaka, Pohara is a gem in the Golden Bay area and a popular holiday spot in the region offering a safe swimming beach and a relaxed vibe.
Gill Ireland of Bayleys Nelson Tasman says this property was always going to resonate with buyers as it’s an opportunity that seldom comes up in this enviable part of the South Island.
“The area is increasing in popularity and I think the pandemic situation has only heightened that.
“The business operation across the property is doing very well and with accommodation in the area pretty scarce, both the current motel-style units and the future redevelopment potential played a big part in the buyer interest we received.”
Gill says the large corner site has good profile and access and the fact that it is held in two titles gives flexibility and options down the line.
“The successful buyer from South Auckland purchased the property sight-unseen, but is familiar with the area and loves Pohara.
“With the deadline sale date brought forward by a week, it is evident that the property market is in good heart and I was delighted to achieve a solid outcome for my vendors.”
Vendor Comment
Vendors Anne and Rob chose to work with Gill of Bayleys Nelson Tasman due to her extensive commercial experience.
With close links to the community, long-time residents of the Pohara area Anne and Rob had owned the property for nine years, initially as a freehold going-concern operation, but selling the business side to current operators Kotare Sand three years ago.
“The business just gets busier and busier every year,” says Anne.
“However this year we decided to sell our commercial buildings, too, as we’re heading into a retirement/work reduction phase.”
Anne says while they did investigate other real estate companies, Gill’s comprehensive and successful track record in the commercial sector ultimately shaped their decision to sell with Bayleys – and they’re pleased they did.
“From the start of the sales’ process Gill kept us up-to-date on all aspects of the preparation and marketing process, the advertising and all of the enquiries that came through.
“We felt Gill was 100 percent committed to the sale of our property and was proactive in following up on client enquiries and relaying feedback to us.
“We were happy with the outcome of the sale and very appreciative of Gill’s dedication and thoroughness.”
